Swords

Swords are a Strength and Dexterity melee Martial Weapon class with one-handed and two-handed base types in the game data. In the current 0.5.4d Early Access game, the Sword class and its intended skill family are still unreleased. Database records and old bug-dropped swords should not be mistaken for a normally available build archetype.

What Swords does

Current rules

Do not plan a current character around finding a Sword through normal progression. PoE2DB can show Sword bases, modifier pools, and internal skill compatibility because those records exist in the client data. A few sword bases escaped through Rogue Exile drops in earlier versions, but they are acquisition exceptions, not evidence that Swords are generally drop-enabled.

Swords are not normally available
The current Sword class is unreleased. Normal campaign and endgame progression does not provide the complete Sword base and skill ecosystem expected for the class.
Database presence does not prove drop availability
Base types, modifier pools, and internal Sword skill records can exist before the class is released. PoE2DB exposes those records for reference, but a data entry alone does not mean the item can normally drop or that its skill is available to players.
Old Rogue Exile drops are exceptions
Several one-handed and two-handed Sword bases were prematurely obtainable from Rogue Exiles in the 0.2 series. Dark Blade is one documented example. These bug-dropped items may still exist in an Early Access economy without making Swords a supported current weapon family.
Swords require Strength and Dexterity
The class definition uses both Strength and Dexterity requirements. Meeting those requirements only permits equipping an obtainable item; it does not unlock unreleased Sword skills or make Sword bases enter the normal drop pool.
One-handed and two-handed are separate base classes
One Hand Swords occupy one weapon slot and are eligible for wording that specifies One-Handed Weapons. Two Hand Swords normally occupy both weapon slots and are eligible for wording that specifies Two-Handed Weapons.
Giant's Blood changes wielding, not classification
Giant's Blood allows Two-Handed Swords to be wielded in one hand, triples Martial Weapon attribute requirements, and halves the inherent Life granted by Strength. The item remains a Two Hand Sword for modifiers and skill requirements.
Attacks use the weapon, Spells do not by default
A Sword Attack can use the weapon's damage, attack speed, Critical Hit Chance, and applicable local modifiers. Merely equipping a Sword does not make unrelated Spells use its weapon damage or qualify as Attacks with that weapon.
Elemental themes are descriptive
The Sword keyword says Sword Attacks are commonly related to elemental damage. This describes the intended skill theme. It does not convert every Sword Hit to elemental damage or make every elemental skill a Sword Attack.

Modifier data

The one-handed pool contains familiar weapon prefixes and suffixes such as added damage, increased Physical Damage, Accuracy, Attack Speed, attributes, leech, and elemental Attack scaling. Treat the table as data reference until Swords are released.

Giant's Blood

A Two Hand Sword wielded in one hand through Giant's Blood remains a Two Hand Sword. It does not become a One Hand Sword and still uses the keystone's increased requirement rules.

Future release status

When Grinding Gear Games drop-enables Swords and releases their player skills, acquisition, bases, modifier eligibility, skill links, and patch history must be rechecked before removing the unreleased notice.
