What Attributes does
Current rulesCheck the requirements on the item or gem you want to use, then reach each required Attribute through your passive tree, equipment, or other explicit effects. Every point of Strength grants 2 maximum Life, every point of Dexterity grants 8 Accuracy Rating, and every point of Intelligence grants 2 maximum Mana. Attributes do not inherently grant damage unless another effect says they do.
- Strength grants maximum Life
- Every 1 Strength grants 2 maximum Life. Strength is commonly required by Armour equipment and melee-aligned weapons and skills, but it grants no inherent damage bonus.
- Dexterity grants Accuracy Rating
- Every 1 Dexterity grants 8 Accuracy Rating. Dexterity is commonly required by Evasion equipment and range-aligned weapons and skills, but it grants no inherent damage bonus.
- Intelligence grants maximum Mana
- Every 1 Intelligence grants 2 maximum Mana. Intelligence is commonly required by Energy Shield equipment and spell-aligned weapons and skills, but it grants no inherent damage bonus.
- Requirements are separate from class
- A class has a starting position and natural Attribute alignment, but the character may use equipment and skills from another alignment when all applicable level, Attribute, and weapon requirements are met.
- An unsupported Support Gem is disabled
- If a socketed Support Gem has an Attribute requirement you do not meet, that Support is disabled. Since update 0.3.0, this no longer disables the entire Skill.
- Specific effects can replace the normal rules
- Read the exact passive, item, or Ascendancy wording. Effects can multiply a requirement, let another Attribute satisfy it, replace an inherent bonus, or change how much benefit an Attribute grants.
Where Attributes matter
7 casesEquipment can require one or more Attributes. Armour-aligned bases commonly follow Strength for Armour, Dexterity for Evasion, Intelligence for Energy Shield, or a hybrid of two Attributes.

4 rules- Attributes do not inherently increase damage. A separate passive, item, skill, or modifier must explicitly create that scaling.
- Meeting a gem's Attribute requirement does not replace its level, weapon, Spirit, cost, or other requirements.
- Increased Attributes multiplies the character's applicable Attribute total. It does not reduce the requirement printed on an item or gem.
- Requirement-changing effects must be checked individually because they may apply only to gems, equipment, Martial Weapons, or another exact target.
