On PC, hold Ctrl and left-click the destination on the waypoint map or Ctrl-click the entrance to that area, then choose New in the Instance Manager. On PlayStation, highlight the destination and press Triangle. On Xbox, press Y. The new instance has a newly generated layout and a fresh set of monsters. Pick up anything you want from the old instance before replacing it.
- Leave the area you want to reset and stand at a connected entrance or open a waypoint.
- Pick up wanted ground items before leaving. A new instance does not contain items left in the old one.
- Select a hostile campaign area. Towns and fixed destinations do not use the same reset flow.
- For endgame maps, use the Map Device and Waystone rules instead of treating the map as an ordinary campaign-area reset.
On PC, hold Ctrl and left-click the area on the waypoint map. If the area has no waypoint, hold Ctrl and click the entrance that leads into it. On PlayStation, highlight the destination and press Triangle. On Xbox, highlight it and press Y. The button prompt shown by the game takes priority if controls have been rebound.
- PC: Ctrl plus left-click.
- PlayStation: Triangle.
- Xbox: Y.

The Instance Manager lists any still-active copies of the area. Choose New instead of an existing entry, then enter the area. The game generates another instance from that area's rules.
- Choose New, not the previous instance.
- Enter the newly created instance.
- Use an existing entry only when you intentionally want to return to the old layout.

A fresh instance has a newly generated layout, living monsters, and reset encounter state. This is useful for repeating ordinary campaign monsters or a repeatable boss.
- The local map is unexplored again.
- Normal monsters have respawned.
- The layout may differ from the previous instance.

An empty campaign instance normally remains available for about 8 to 15 minutes. When it expires, its saved monsters, layout, and ground items are destroyed, and the next entry creates another instance. The manual Instance Manager is the immediate option. Instances opened through the Map Device can remain available much longer.
- Do not leave wanted items on the ground.
- The timeout is approximate, not a countdown shown by the game.
- Map Device instances can remain available much longer and follow separate rules.

Creating a new instance from an entrance or waypoint is a manual area reset. Respawn at Checkpoint is a separate party command that can move the whole party into a new campaign instance when its conditions are met.
- Use the Instance Manager when you deliberately want a fresh area.
- Use party checkpoint respawn only for its campaign death and regrouping flow.

A new instance does not preserve the old areaThe fresh instance has its own layout and state. Ground items, killed monsters, exploration, and other saved state remain in the old instance only while it still exists.
Campaign areas and endgame maps are differentThe familiar Ctrl-click reset is for campaign-area instances. Endgame maps are opened through the Map Device with Waystones and have separate access, death, and persistence rules.
