Move to a stricter mapping filter only when the items it hides are genuinely no longer useful to your character. A filter tier is an editorial choice, not an objective item-value rule.

Sign in to the Path of Exile website with the account linked to the game platform, open the item-filter ladder with Game Type set to PoE2, and follow the chosen filter. In the game, open Options, Game, Item Filter, refresh the list when needed, and select that filter. Console support for subscribed filters was added in version 0.1.1.

Save the file with the .filter extension in Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2. A text file that still ends in .txt will not load. Open Options, Game, Item Filter, select the file, and use the refresh control after editing it.

A filter is made of Show and Hide blocks. Every condition inside a block must match the item. The game evaluates blocks from top to bottom and normally stops at the first matching block. Add Continue to a block only when later blocks must also evaluate that item. If no Hide block matches, the item is shown by default.
- Place specific valuable-item rules before broad catch-all rules.
- Treat all conditions in one block as an AND test.
- Use Continue deliberately because it lets later blocks override or add presentation actions.

Conditions decide which items enter a block. Common examples include Class, BaseType, Rarity, ItemLevel, AreaLevel, Quality, Sockets, StackSize, GemLevel, WaystoneTier, and PoE2-specific conditions documented in the official reference. Actions such as SetTextColor, SetBorderColor, SetBackgroundColor, SetFontSize, PlayAlertSound, MinimapIcon, and PlayEffect control how matched drops are presented. Version 0.3 added Import support and multiple custom sounds for larger filters.
- Use == when you need an exact BaseType match.
- Use comparison operators such as >= only with conditions that accept them.

Reload the filter after each edit and test both an item that should show and one that should hide. On keyboard, hold Alt to inspect hidden drops under the current highlight state. On controller, press Left Stick to show items hidden by the filter. Z or the controller Always Highlight toggle affects persistent permitted labels and is not the same as revealing filtered items.
- Test after a game update adds or renames item classes.
- Check the first matching rule when an item has the wrong style.
