Splash Damage

Splash Damage lets an eligible Strike create an additional Hit against other enemies around the enemy struck. The original Strike still hits its selected target. The splash is the nearby-enemy hit, with a base radius of 1.5 metres.

What Splash Damage does

Current rules

Use a Strike Skill and gain wording such as Strikes deal Splash Damage from a weapon, passive, or support. Hit one enemy inside a pack. That enemy takes the normal Strike, while other enemies within the splash radius can take the additional Hit. Slams, projectile-only hits, and skills without an eligible Strike do not gain splash merely because they deal melee or area damage.

Splash begins with a Strike
The mechanic requires an eligible Strike Hit. A Strike directly hits the selected enemy with a weapon or body part. Splash then creates a separate nearby Hit against other enemies around that target.
The base radius is 1.5 metres
All sources of Strikes dealing Splash Damage use a 1.5 metre base radius. Content Update 0.2.0 reduced this from 1.8 metres.
The selected target is not hit twice by its own splash
The original enemy takes the Strike Hit. The additional splash Hit is dealt to other enemies around it, so the selected target does not receive a second copy from that same splash application.
One damaging area can apply Splash once
Since 0.5.0, a Melee Attack can apply Splash Damage only once per damaging area. A skill such as Whirling Assault can create several damaging areas during one use, but each area has its own single Splash application limit.
Chance to Splash is checked on an eligible Strike
A modifier such as 10% chance for Strike Skills you use yourself with Maces to deal Splash Damage does not make every Hit splash. The Hit must be a qualifying self-used Mace Strike, then pass the stated chance.
Slams and Strikes are different
A Slam is not a Strike, even though both can be Melee Attacks. Strike Splash does not make a Slam splash. Split the Earth therefore has separate wording for Mace Slam Aftershocks and Mace Strike Splash.
Minion Splash is for minion Strikes
Minion Splash supports Skills that create Minions which Strike. It gives those Minion Strikes Melee Splash; it does not give the player's own Strike Skill Splash Damage.
Splash and Aftershock can coexist
Impact Shockwave now creates an Aftershock instead of a hidden Splash variant. A Strike can therefore cause both its normal Splash and an Impact Shockwave Aftershock from the same Hit when both effects apply.

Ways to gain or use Splash Damage

7 cases
01
Cultist Greathammer family

Cultist Greathammer and related bases have the implicit modifier Strikes deal Splash Damage. The Empty Roar inherits that implicit and applies it to eligible Strikes made with the weapon.

03
Tribal Fury

This notable passive grants Strikes deal Splash Damage without restricting the effect to one named weapon class.

04
Split the Earth

Self-used Mace Strike Skills have 10% chance to deal Splash Damage. Its separate Mace Slam line causes additional Aftershocks and does not turn Slams into Strikes.

05
Minion Splash I and II

Both support Skills that create Minions which Strike. Minion Splash II also increases the supported Minions' Strike Area of Effect.

Impact Shockwave

Impact Shockwave is an Aftershock payoff, not Splash Damage. It can occur alongside Splash from the same Strike and uses Aftershock-specific area and damage modifiers.

Whirling Assault

Its movement creates multiple damaging areas. Each damaging area can apply Splash once under the 0.5.0 limit.
