Quick answer

On the official Path of Exile 2 trade search, narrow the item by league, category, base type, rarity, item level, and price before adding stat groups. Use AND for requirements, NOT for exclusions, IF for an optional stat that must meet a range when present, COUNT for any or several alternatives, and Weighted Sum when different combinations can reach one useful score. Regex is mainly for searching displayed item text in in-game search boxes. It does not replace the trade site's structured stat filters.

Before you start

5 points
  • Use a trade-enabled league. Solo Self-Found characters cannot trade.
  • Use the official website for the most complete advanced equipment search. The in-game Market Panel can complete supported listings.
  • Check whether the wanted item is listed in the Currency Exchange before searching equipment listings.
  • Unlock Ange in Act 4 and have a hideout for asynchronous trading. Manual trading remains a separate method.
  • Know the item class or base type, mandatory stats, acceptable alternatives, maximum price, and corruption requirement before building the search.
1
Step 1

Choose the correct trading method

Use the Currency Exchange for supported currency, runes, Essences, and other listed stackable items. Use asynchronous trading for equipment and other items sold through Merchant's Tabs. Use a direct trade window when a listing requires a whisper, when trading with a friend, or when the item is not being sold through a Merchant's Tab.

  • Currency Exchange: supported stackable items.
  • Merchant's Tab: priced non-exchange items, including equipment.
  • Manual trade: an agreed exchange between two characters in the same instance.

Step 2

Set the item and economy first

Open the official Path of Exile 2 trade search and select the correct realm and league. Set the item category, item class or base type, rarity, item level, corruption state, and socket requirements before adding stat filters. Add a maximum buyout price and choose whether results must come from online sellers. These filters remove obviously wrong items before the stat logic runs.

  • Use the exact unique name when buying a unique item.
  • Use item class when several bases are acceptable, or base type when only one base works.
  • Set Corrupted to No when you still need to craft or modify the item.
  • Do not mistake required character level for item level.

Step 3

Choose AND, NOT, IF, or COUNT

Each stat group controls how its enabled filters are combined. Put true requirements in AND. Use NOT to remove listings with unwanted properties. Use IF when a stat may be absent but must meet the entered range if it exists. Use COUNT when several listed alternatives are acceptable and you need a chosen number of them to match.

  • AND: every enabled filter in the group must match.
  • NOT: exclude items that match the unwanted filters in the group.
  • IF: the stat may be absent; if present, it must satisfy its entered minimum and maximum.
  • COUNT with group minimum 1: at least one listed condition must match, which works like OR.
  • COUNT with group minimum 2: at least two listed conditions must match.
  • COUNT with minimum 2 and maximum 2: exactly two listed conditions must match.

5
Step 5

Use Weighted Sum for acceptable tradeoffs

Weighted Sum converts several matching stats into one score. For each listed stat, the trade search multiplies the item's value by the weight you entered, then adds the results. Set the group's minimum total to the lowest score you will accept. Use different weights when one point of one stat is worth more to your build than one point of another.

  • Formula: total score = sum of each matching stat value multiplied by its weight.
  • Example: 30 Fire Resistance at weight 1 plus 20 Cold Resistance at weight 1 gives a score of 50.
  • Equal weights do not make unlike stats equally valuable. A Life roll and an Attack Speed roll use very different numeric scales.
  • Prefer a direct DPS or total resistance pseudo filter when it already measures the result you need.
  • Sort by the weighted group when comparing how efficiently results meet your score.

Item Modifiers

Use real modifier ranges when choosing weights and score thresholds.

6
Step 6

Understand Weighted Sum and Weighted Sum V2

The original Weighted Sum applies each individual minimum and maximum like an IF condition: the stat may be absent, but when present it must be inside the entered range before the weighted score is checked. Weighted Sum V2 requires at least one listed stat to exist, then lets other qualifying stats reach the group total when one listed stat is outside its range. The out-of-range stat contributes nothing. Use V1 when every present listed stat must stay inside its range. Use V2 when the final combined value matters more than the exact mixture.

  • V1: an absent listed stat is allowed, but a present listed stat must meet its own range.
  • V2: at least one listed stat must exist, and an out-of-range stat contributes zero instead of rejecting the item by itself.
  • Put a truly mandatory stat in a separate AND group instead of hoping a weighted group enforces it.
  • Test the search with a few known listings before saving or sharing complicated weights.

Modifier Values

7
Step 7

Choose the correct stat type

Trade filters distinguish pseudo, explicit, implicit, enchantment, corrupted, desecrated, and other stat sources. A pseudo filter combines related visible values into a useful total, such as total elemental resistance. An explicit filter searches the ordinary affix itself. Select the source that matches the actual question, because identical words can refer to different parts of an item.

  • Use pseudo total resistance when the total matters more than which affixes provide it.
  • Use an explicit modifier when you need that exact affix.
  • Use implicit, enchantment, corrupted, or desecrated filters only for the matching item property.
  • Visible item values can include quality, hybrid modifiers, augments, or other contributions. Inspect the listing before buying.

Corrupted

8
Step 8

Search for an open prefix or suffix

When the item still needs another crafted modifier, add the pseudo stat # Empty Prefix Modifiers or # Empty Suffix Modifiers to an AND group and set its minimum to 1. Also set Corrupted to No unless the planned crafting method explicitly works on Corrupted items. The empty-affix filter proves that a slot is open, but it does not prove that the intended modifier is eligible for the base and item level.

  • # Empty Prefix Modifiers with minimum 1 requires at least one open prefix slot.
  • # Empty Suffix Modifiers with minimum 1 requires at least one open suffix slot.
  • Use AND because the open slot is a required property of the purchase.
  • Check the base, item level, modifier group, and corruption state before buying the item for a specific craft.

9
Step 9

Use regex for displayed item text

In-game stash, vendor, and market search boxes match the text shown on items. Press Ctrl+F where supported to focus the search field. Plain words find that text, quoted phrases keep words together, a vertical bar means either expression, and regular-expression characters can describe patterns. Keep these searches short and check every highlighted item because regex matches text, not game meaning.

  • "maximum life": match that exact displayed phrase.
  • "maximum life" "fire resistance": require both displayed phrases.
  • fire|cold: match text containing fire or cold.
  • !reflect: exclude text containing reflect in search boxes that support the exclusion prefix.
  • [0-9] or \d matches a digit, a dot matches any character, and parentheses group alternatives.
  • ^ anchors the start, $ anchors the end, ? means zero or one, + means one or more, and * means zero or more.
  • Use a backslash to escape a special character when you need to match the character itself.
  • Use structured trade stat filters for numeric item requirements. Regex can also match an item name, flavour text, or an unrelated line.

Step 10

Review the actual listings

Run the search, sort by price or the stat group that matters, and compare several listings rather than buying the first result. Open the detailed item view and verify the base, item level, requirements, modifier values, augment sockets, quality, and corruption state. Save or bookmark a useful search after confirming it returns the intended items.

  • A low price can reflect a weak roll, wrong base, corruption, missing socket, or offline seller.
  • Price caps should include the correct payment currency.
  • Inspect the item again inside the purchase or manual trade interface.

11
Step 11

Buy equipment through the Market Panel

Open the in-game Market Panel, search for the item and filters you need, then select Secure Item on a Merchant's Tab listing. The game sends you to the seller's hideout and opens Ange's shop with the selected item highlighted. Confirm the exact item, listed currency price, and separate Gold fee before buying. The seller does not need to be online.

  • Check the base type, item level, sockets, modifiers, rolls, and corruption state.
  • Bring the listed currency and enough Gold for the buyer fee.
  • Make room in the character inventory before confirming the purchase.

12
Step 12

Sell items through a Merchant's Tab

Unlock Ange in Act 4 and invite her to a hideout. Open Manage Shop, place an eligible item in a Merchant's Tab, and give that item an individual price in one currency type. Buyers can purchase it while you are offline. When it sells, return to Ange and withdraw the payment from the remove-only Earnings Tab.

  • A Merchant's Tab must be purchased or obtained through an eligible older Premium Stash Tab conversion.
  • Each item needs its own price; a whole Merchant's Tab cannot share one buyout price.
  • Listing and selling have no Gold fee for the seller.

Step 13

Complete a manual trade

For a traditional listing, select the correct game and league on the official trade website, search for the item, and use Direct Whisper. If the seller agrees, accept the party invitation and travel to the seller's hideout or town instance. The seller opens the trade request. Place the agreed payment into your side, inspect the item in the other side, and select Accept only after every detail matches the listing.

  • Use the same league as the seller's listing.
  • Hover and verify the item inside the trade window rather than relying on the listing alone.
  • If either side changes an item after accepting, both players must accept again.

14
Step 14

Use the Currency Exchange for supported stackables

Open Ange's Currency Exchange, choose the item you want and the item you will pay, set both quantities, and compare the Market Ratio. The exchange reserves the offered items and charges a separate Gold fee when the order is placed. Return to the interface to collect a completed order.

  • Market Ratio is the player-market price, not the Gold fee.
  • Changing either quantity changes the ratio and total fee.
  • Use the searchable eligible-items directory when an item does not appear in the interface.

Important limits

Merchant's Tabs are not free storage

Grinding Gear Games does not provide a free Merchant's Tab. A converted tab is changed account-wide, cannot be used as an ordinary Premium Stash Tab, and is unavailable in Solo Self-Found.

The buyer pays the asynchronous Gold fee

The listed currency goes to the seller, but the additional Gold fee does not. The seller pays no Gold to list or complete a Merchant's Tab sale.

A listing is not a substitute for checking the item

For manual trades, verify the actual item in the trade window. Check modifiers, numeric rolls, sockets, item level, and corruption state before accepting.

Regex and trade stat filters solve different problems

Regex searches rendered item text and can match an unrelated line. Structured trade filters understand named stats, numeric ranges, item categories, and group logic. Use the structured filters for buying equipment and regex for fast text searches.

Weighted Sum weights are build-specific

A useful weight for one build can be wrong for another. Natural stat scales also differ, so equal weights do not automatically represent equal value. Keep mandatory requirements in AND and verify several returned items.

Trading requires the same economy

The characters must be in compatible trade-enabled leagues. Solo Self-Found disables trading, parties, Currency Exchange access, and Merchant's Tabs.
