Quick answer

In Act 3, find The Molten Vault from The Drowned City, defeat Mektul, the Forgemaster, pick up The Hammer of Kamasa, and give it to Oswald in the Ziggurat Encampment. This completes Treasures of Utzaal and unlocks the Reforging Bench in towns and Hideouts. Before reforging ordinary equipment, check all three inputs carefully because they are destroyed and the result does not retain their modifiers, sockets, quality, or socketed Augments.

What you need

3 points
  • Act 3 reached and the lake at the Ziggurat Encampment drained.
  • The Drowned City accessible from the current Act 3 timeline.
  • Enough damage and survivability to defeat Mektul before molten gold fills his arena.

Step 1

Start Treasures of Utzaal

After draining the lake in Act 3, speak to Alva and Oswald at the Ziggurat Encampment, then enter The Drowned City. Treasures of Utzaal is optional for campaign progression, so it can remain unfinished even after the character reaches later acts or the Atlas.

  • The current Act 3 timeline is selected.
  • The Drowned City waypoint or entrance is available.
  • Treasures of Utzaal appears in the quest log, or Oswald can be summoned at the Molten Vault entrance.

Step 2

Find The Molten Vault

Explore The Drowned City until you find the entrance marked by monkey statues. Summon Oswald at the entrance, speak to him, then enter The Molten Vault and continue to its boss arena.

  • The entrance with monkey statues was found.
  • Oswald was summoned and spoken to at the entrance.
  • The Molten Vault was entered from The Drowned City.

Step 3

Defeat Mektul and take the Hammer

Enter Mektul's narrow arena and defeat him before the advancing molten gold reaches the end. His death stops the flow. Pick up The Hammer of Kamasa before leaving the area.

  • Mektul, the Forgemaster was defeated.
  • The Hammer of Kamasa was picked up.
  • The quest objective now says to bring the Hammer to Oswald.
NPC

Oswald

Return the Hammer to Oswald after the boss.

Step 4

Give the Hammer to Oswald

Return to the Ziggurat Encampment and give The Hammer of Kamasa to Oswald. Completing the turn-in unlocks the Reforging Bench in towns and Hideouts. Killing Mektul without collecting and turning in the Hammer does not complete the unlock.

  • The Hammer was removed from the quest inventory.
  • Treasures of Utzaal is complete.
  • The Reforging Bench can be opened in a town or Hideout.
NPC

Oswald

Return the Hammer to this NPC.

Step 5

Check the result before reforging

For the ordinary three-to-one equipment operation, use three identified items with the same base type and rarity. Equipment cannot be Normal, and inputs cannot be Corrupted or Mirrored. The bench destroys all three and creates one item at the lowest input item level. Its modifiers, sockets, quality, and socketed Augments are rerolled or lost. Named recipes for Runes, Essences, Liquid Emotions, Waystones, and other families have their own exact outputs, so check the Reforging Bench table before committing the inputs.

  • All three inputs satisfy the selected recipe.
  • No input contains a modifier, socket, quality value, or Augment that must be kept.
  • The lowest input item level is acceptable for the intended result.
  • The expected output is confirmed in the current recipe table.

Important limits

All three inputs are destroyed

Do not use an item that contains a modifier, socket, quality value, or socketed Augment you need to preserve. The ordinary output is a newly rolled item, not one selected input with improvements added.

The lowest input item level is retained

One low item-level input lowers the result to that item level. This can remove access to higher modifier tiers even when the other two inputs have higher item levels.

Same base type is stricter than same item class

Three items can share an equipment class and still be invalid because the ordinary recipe requires the same base type. Unique inputs must also be the same Unique item.
