Experience Loss on Death

Dying in an area accessed through a Map Device removes 10% of the experience required for your current level. The loss stops at the start of that level.

If your experience bar is at 46%, one death leaves it at 36%. If it is at 6%, the loss stops at 0% and cannot lower your character level.

How the loss works

One character death
  1. Check the area. The character XP loss applies in areas accessed through a Map Device. Act areas do not apply it.
  2. Calculate the loss. The normal amount is 10% of the experience required for the current character level, not 10% of the progress currently visible on the bar.
  3. Apply the level floor.Experience cannot fall below the start of the current level.
  4. Apply Amelioration. An active Omen of Amelioration prevents 75% of the loss, reducing a normal Map Device death from 10% to 2.5%.

Omen of Amelioration

Death protection

Activate it first

Right-click the Omen in the inventory so it is active before entering dangerous content.

It reduces the loss

The Omen does not prevent death. It prevents 75% of the experience loss that would have occurred.

Combat Omen limit

Only one Omen can trigger from combat in an instance. Another combat Omen triggering first can leave Amelioration unavailable for that instance.
