What Quality does

Current rules

On a martial weapon, each 1% Quality grants 1% more local Physical Damage. Blacksmith's Whetstone adds Quality to martial weapons; the amount applied per use depends on the item's level.

Default maximum
20%. Specific bases, modifiers, exceptional drops, corruption outcomes, and Infusers can allow or produce higher values.
Calculation
Quality applies as its own multiplier to the relevant local value after other modifiers. The displayed result is then truncated.
Currency scaling
For equipment, a higher item level means ordinary Quality currency adds less Quality per use. Gemcutter's Prism adds 5% Quality to a Skill Gem.
Reaching 30%
Eligible high-level items can rarely drop with up to 30% Quality. Vaal Infusers can instead raise an eligible item's Quality by up to 10% above its normal maximum, but using one has a chance to Corrupt the item.

Charms

1% increased local duration per 1% Quality

Charms can have Quality, but no ordinary currency currently adds it directly.

Limits and exceptions

4 rules
  • Quivers, jewels, and belts cannot normally have Quality applied.
  • Support Gems cannot have Quality added to them.
  • Quality on an amulet does not pass to an inherent skill granted by that amulet.
  • Only the martial weapon's local Physical Damage is improved; added non-Physical Damage is not multiplied by weapon Quality.
