What Zealot's Oath does
Current rulesZealot's Oath first lets Life regeneration satisfy the character's current Life recovery or ongoing Life loss. Only the excess amount that could not further recover Life is applied to Energy Shield. This Energy Shield recovery is regeneration, not Recharge, so Energy Shield Recharge Rate does not scale it. The Keystone disables Energy Shield Recharge but does not prevent Life Recharge granted by Eternal Youth.
- Only excess regeneration moves to Energy Shield
- Life regeneration continues to account for missing Life and ongoing Life loss first. The remaining recovery that cannot further restore Life becomes Energy Shield regeneration.
- Full or capped Life creates excess
- Excess commonly exists when Life is at its maximum unreserved value or valid Overflow, or when another rule prevents Life from recovering further. The exact transferred amount is the unused part after other Life recovery and loss are considered.
- The recovery is regeneration
- Energy Shield gained from Zealot's Oath is regeneration. Energy Shield Recharge Rate and faster start of Recharge do not scale or start this recovery.
- Energy Shield Recharge is disabled
- Ordinary Energy Shield Recharge cannot begin while Zealot's Oath applies, even after the normal Recharge delay. Builds must use the transferred regeneration or another compatible Energy Shield recovery source.
- Eternal Youth Life Recharge still works
- The downside disables Energy Shield Recharge specifically. Eternal Youth grants Life Recharge, which remains a Life recovery mechanic and is not prevented by this wording.
Zealot's Oath interactions
3 casesThe Unique body armour grants Zealot's Oath, regenerates Life from Intelligence, and prevents its maximum Energy Shield from being converted. These lines are designed to interact but remain separate rules.
Related: Geofri's Sanctuary, Eldritch BatteryRecharge begins after a delay and has its own rate. Regeneration is continuous recovery. Zealot's Oath disables the former and creates the latter only from excess Life regeneration.
