Quick answer

Complete an Ascension Trial that matches the number of Ascendancy points your character has earned. At the completed trial, speak to Balbala or the Trialmaster and refund every allocated Ascendancy point. With zero points allocated, use the Ascension device and choose another regular Ascendancy for the same base character class.

Before you start

3 points
  • The number of Ascendancy points your character has earned, including unallocated points.
  • An Ascension Trial that would grant that same total number of points.
  • Enough gold to remove every allocated Ascendancy passive after completing the trial. Preview the total refund cost before entering.

Step 1

Choose the new Ascendancy first

Compare the Ascendancies available to your base character class before entering the trial. Check the notable effects and use the planner to make sure the new tree works with the build.

  • The new Ascendancy belongs to the same base character class.
  • The planned route uses no more Ascendancy points than the character has earned.
  • The destination is a regular Ascendancy for the same base class.

Step 2

Use a trial that matches your point total

Enter an Ascension Trial that would grant the number of Ascendancy points your character already has. The verified tiers are one Sekhemas floor or four Chaos rounds for 2 points, two floors or seven rounds for 4, three floors or ten rounds for 6, and four floors or the Trialmaster route for 8.

  • Count earned Ascendancy points, not only the points currently allocated.
  • Read the trial item's Ascendancy point notice before starting.
  • Keep the current Ascendancy allocated while completing the trial if the build needs it.

Step 3

Complete the Ascension Trial

Finish the required trial tier and reach its Ascension device. The class change is performed inside the completed trial, so do not leave the reward area before refunding the old tree and choosing the replacement.

  • The completed trial is the tier checked in the previous step.
  • Balbala or the Trialmaster is available beside the Ascension device.
  • Remain in the completed trial area until the class change is finished.

Step 4

Refund every Ascendancy passive

Speak to Balbala or the Trialmaster beside the Ascension device to open the refund window. Remove every allocated Ascendancy passive. The Ascension device only permits a class change when zero Ascendancy points remain allocated.

  • Refund Ascendancy passives, not the main passive tree by mistake.
  • Resolve any equipment, slot, or passive allocation that depends on a node before trying to remove it.
  • Confirm that the Ascendancy tree shows zero allocated points.

Step 5

Choose the new class and reallocate points

Use the Ascension device, select the new Ascendancy, and confirm the choice. Open the new tree and allocate the recovered points along a connected valid path.

  • The Ascendancy name shown after confirmation is the intended destination.
  • Every planned notable has its required connecting passives.
  • Skills, gear, and the main passive tree still meet their requirements after the change.

Important limits

The trial tier must match earned points

Having fewer points allocated does not make a lower tier trial valid. The requirement uses the number of Ascendancy points the character has earned.

This process changes regular Ascendancies

Alternate Ascendancies use their own unlock and switching rules. Abyssal Lich, for example, is unlocked from Lich through Abyss content and is not selected as another regular Witch choice at the trial device.
