The slain enemy creates an explosion with 2,500 base Chaos damage because 10,000 multiplied by 25% equals 2,500.

Dreaming Gloom Shrine
Dreaming Gloom Shrine makes slain enemies explode for Chaos damage equal to 25% of their maximum Life. Palm of the Dreamer grants this shrine effect continuously while the Sceptre is active.Catalog version 0.5.4d
No direct 0.5 patch change is linked to this page. The displayed values are current for catalog version 0.5.4d.
What Dreaming Gloom Shrine does
Current rulesThe explosion uses the slain enemy's maximum Life, not the damage of the killing blow. An enemy with 100,000 maximum Life produces 25,000 base Chaos damage. If that explosion slays nearby enemies, their deaths can continue the pack-clearing sequence. The effect is strong against dense packs but adds no direct damage against an isolated target until another enemy dies nearby.
- Each explosion uses 25% of the slain enemy's maximum Life
- The base explosion damage is one quarter of the slain enemy's maximum Life and is dealt as Chaos damage. It does not use current Life, overkill damage, the damage of the killing Hit, or the maximum Life of the enemy struck by the explosion.
- The effect is permanent while Palm is active
- Palm of the Dreamer grants the effect directly. It is not a temporary shrine found in a map and it has no stated countdown. The effect depends on the item remaining active rather than on Skill Effect Duration.
- Palm's other Chaos modifiers are separate
- Gain 27% of Damage as Extra Chaos Damage, the added Attack Chaos Damage for Allies in your Presence, and Impurity are separate Palm of the Dreamer modifiers. Dreaming Gloom Shrine itself only states the slain-enemy explosion.
- The fixed maximum-Life basis is not a skill tooltip
- The shrine definition provides no Attack, Spell, or Skill tags and no damage-effectiveness value. Do not assume modifiers limited to your Attacks, Spells, or Skills scale the explosion. The enemy receiving the explosion can still mitigate Chaos damage through its applicable defences and damage-taken modifiers.
- Dense packs enable chained clearing
- Every eligible slain enemy produces its own maximum-Life-based explosion. When one explosion slays another nearby enemy, that death can produce the next explosion, which is why the effect can clear a tightly grouped pack from one initial kill.
- Single-target value requires another enemy
- Dreaming Gloom Shrine does not state a direct bonus against a living isolated boss. Its damage starts from a slain enemy, so boss damage requires another enemy to die close enough for its explosion to reach the boss.
- Dreaming Gloom is not the ordinary Gloom Shrine
- An ordinary Gloom Shrine grants extra Chaos damage and gives slain enemies a chance to explode. Dreaming Gloom's own definition instead states that slain enemies explode for exactly one quarter of maximum Life. Palm's separate 27% extra-Chaos modifier should not be merged into the shrine definition.
- Kill ownership has reported edge cases
- The public definition says slain enemies rather than fully documenting player, Minion, Totem, and other proxy attribution. Historical forum reports describe missed explosions from some proxy kills and Delirium monsters. No official resolution was located, so those cases remain reported behavior rather than a universal rule.
Damage examples, acquisition, and related effects
6 casesThe slain enemy creates an explosion with 250,000 base Chaos damage. The nearby target's applicable Chaos mitigation and damage-taken modifiers then affect the damage received.
