What Shrine does
Current rulesA Shrine affects monsters inside its Presence before activation. Only the packs marked as Worshippers must die to unlock it; other nearby monsters can receive the effect without counting toward that requirement. After the last Worshipper dies, interact with the Shrine to take its effect. Current ordinary Shrine buffs have a 45 second base duration, and Atlas passive skills can change their chance, effect, duration, worshippers, or interaction with the map boss.
- Kill every Worshipper before clicking
- Shrines are found with multiple packs of monsters Worshipping them. Other monsters inside the Shrine's Presence can also be empowered, but they do not count as Worshippers. The Shrine becomes available after every Worshipper has been defeated.
- The current base duration is 45 seconds
- Patch 0.5.0 changed the base duration of every ordinary Shrine to 45 seconds. Older 60 and 90 second values are historical. A player can also remove an active Shrine buff early by right-clicking its buff icon.
- Shrine effect and duration scale separately
- Favoured Disciple grants 50% increased effect of Shrine buffs. Seasonal Blessing grants 50% increased duration. Increased duration changes how long the buff remains; increased effect changes scalable numeric benefits and does not turn every binary effect into a larger one.
- The Atlas can change the encounter itself
- Atlas passives can add Shrine chance, add worshipping packs, make Worshippers Magic, add an effect, release an Azmeri Spirit, involve a Rogue Exile, or interact with the map boss. Fabled Showdown can reapply the buff on entering the boss arena or apply it to the boss for an additional reward.
- Seeking, Enlightening, and Gloom can be targeted
- Divined Blessing increases the chance to encounter Seeking, Enlightening, and Gloom Shrines. Seeking improves item rarity, Enlightening improves experience gain, and Gloom adds Chaos damage and causes slain enemies to explode.
- An additional effect can come from two systems
- Twice-Answered Prayers gives Shrines a 25% chance to have an additional effect. Omen of Answered Prayers instead waits in the inventory and makes the next Shrine clicked grant an additional effect. These are separate sources and should not be described as the same trigger.
- Current data calls the life effect Enduring Shrine
- The current game-data row calls the 50% increased maximum Life and 100% increased global Armour, Evasion, and Energy Shield effect Enduring Shrine. The checked community wiki table calls the same effect Massive Shrine. WikiHere keeps that naming conflict visible and treats it as one effect, not two separate Shrines.
- Ordinary, trial, and item-granted Shrines are different
- Maraketh Shrines inside the Trial of the Sekhemas spend Sacred Water and use trial-specific outcomes. Guided Shrines and Dreaming Gloom Shrine are granted by particular Sceptres. The Hammer of Faith grants a random non-damaging Shrine buff every 10 seconds for 20 seconds. None of those is an ordinary map Shrine encounter.

7 rules- Greed Shrine and Corruption Shrine were disabled in patch 0.2.0h and are not part of the current ordinary pool.
- The 43 rows exposed by the database include historical, monster-only, and special variants. They are not 43 current ordinary player Shrine encounters.
- Unique Maps cannot gain additional Shrines through ordinary extra-content generation.
- A failed Map retry does not retain its optional Shrines or other random extra content.
- Maraketh Shrines in the Trial of the Sekhemas use Sacred Water and trial-specific outcomes rather than this ordinary effect table.
- Guided Shrine effects, Dreaming Gloom Shrine, and The Hammer of Faith are item-granted systems rather than ordinary map Shrines.
- The current data name Enduring Shrine conflicts with the Massive Shrine label in the checked community wiki table.
