Mage's Legacy

Mage's Legacies are fourteen possible bonuses rolled in Mageblood's four Legacy slots. Each distinct Legacy grants one always-active bonus while the belt is equipped. Repeated names do not stack directly; instead, every duplicate increases the effect of all distinct Mage's Legacies on that belt.

What Mage's Legacy does

Current rules

Count duplicates as four Legacy slots minus the number of distinct Legacy names. If Mageblood has a 40% increased-effect roll and one duplicate, every distinct Legacy works at 140% of its base value. With two duplicates, each works at 180%. A repeated Legacy still applies only once, so the duplicates are valuable because they strengthen every active Legacy rather than adding another copy of their own bonus.

Mageblood rolls four Legacies from a pool of fourteen
Each of the four Legacy modifier slots selects one of fourteen named outcomes. The same name can appear in more than one slot. These are direct bonuses from the belt, not equipped Utility Flasks and not effects that consume Flask charges.
Only one copy of each named Legacy applies
Two Legacy of Silver rolls do not grant two separate 30% Skill Speed bonuses. Legacy of Silver applies once, and the extra Silver slot counts as a duplicate for Mageblood's increased-effect modifier.
Every duplicate strengthens every distinct Legacy
Mageblood rolls 25% to 50% increased effect per duplicate Mage's Legacy. Multiply that roll by the number of duplicate slots, add the result to 100%, then apply that multiplier to each distinct Legacy on the belt.
Duplicate count depends on distinct names
Four different names have zero duplicates. A, A, B, C has one duplicate. A, A, B, B and A, A, A, B both have two duplicates. Four copies of one name have three duplicates.
Use the formula before comparing two belts
The effect multiplier is 1 + duplicate count times the per-duplicate roll divided by 100. A belt with two duplicates and 35% per duplicate has a 1.70 multiplier. Compare the resulting bonuses, not only the number of repeated lines or the percentage printed on the last modifier.
Flat and increased defence Legacies solve different problems
Legacy of Granite adds a flat 2000 Armour, while Legacy of Basalt grants 150% increased Armour. Legacy of Jade adds 2000 Evasion Rating, while Legacy of Stibnite grants 150% increased Evasion Rating. The better pair depends on the character's existing flat defence and increases.
Elemental resistance Legacies do not all grant the same stats
Legacy of Bismuth grants 45% to all three Elemental Resistances but no maximum resistance. Ruby, Sapphire, and Topaz each grant 60% to one Elemental Resistance plus 5% to that resistance's maximum.
Sulphur has a stationary ground condition
Legacy of Sulphur grants 60% increased Damage. It also makes the area within 2.5 metres of the character Consecrated Ground while the character is stationary. Moving removes the condition for creating that ground area, not the listed increased Damage bonus.
A Divine Orb rerolls the Legacy selection
Using a Divine Orb on an uncorrupted Mageblood rerolls the four selected Mage's Legacies and the variable 25% to 50% increased-effect value. It can replace a useful combination with a worse one, so record the current bonuses before rerolling.
