Parry

Parry is the active Block skill granted by Bucklers. Hold it while facing an enemy to block an eligible Hit, retaliate with a Physical sweep, and apply the Parried debuff.

What Parry does

Current rules

A successful Parry blocks the Hit and counterattacks the triggering enemy plus enemies in the area in front. The default skill works against enemies within 1 metre, or 1.5 metres for Projectile damage. Parried lasts 2 seconds, makes targets take 50% more Attack Damage, and prevents them from Evading Attacks. Parrying builds player Heavy Stun, so it cannot be held safely against unlimited damage.

Bucklers grant Parry
Parry is an inherent skill on Bucklers. It is an Attack, Melee, Physical, Duration, and Channelling skill rather than a passive defence.
Face the enemy and hold Parry
Parry creates directional active Block in front of the character. It can block eligible Hits from enemies within 1 metre and Projectile damage from enemies within 1.5 metres by default.
All eligible Hits can be Parried
Parry is not limited to Strikes and Projectiles. Any blockable Hit can be Parried when the facing and range rules are satisfied.
The counterattack hits an area in front
After a successful Parry, the sweep hits enemies in front and always hits the enemy that triggered the Parry even if that enemy is no longer within the sweep's normal reach.
Parried lasts 2 seconds
The default Parried debuff makes affected enemies take 50% more Attack Damage and prevents them from Evading Attacks for 2 seconds.
Buckler Evasion scales the retaliation
Parry gains 3 to 4 added Physical Damage per 5 Evasion Rating on the Buckler.
Parrying builds Heavy Stun
A Hit that can be Parried cannot be Evaded normally. The Evasion roll instead gives an equal chance to avoid that Hit's player Heavy Stun buildup. Heavy Stun buildup begins decaying after active Block has stopped for 2 seconds.

Limits and exceptions

7 rules
  • Parry requires a Buckler.
  • The default Parry is directional and uses enemy-source range.
  • Red-flash unblockable boss skills cannot be Parried.
  • Damage over time cannot be Parried because it is not a Hit.
  • Parrying can fill the player's Heavy Stun bar.
  • Parried increases Attack Damage taken, not all damage taken, unless an item replaces that rule.
  • Parried prevents Evasion against Attacks. It does not make every Spell automatically hit.
