What Surpassing does

Current rules

Divide the final Surpassing chance by 100%. The whole-number part is the guaranteed number of occurrences and the remainder is the chance for one additional occurrence. A 215% Surpassing chance therefore occurs twice and has a 15% chance to occur a third time. Ordinary chance wording still caps at 100% unless it explicitly says Surpassing.

Each 100% guarantees one occurrence
A Surpassing chance of 100% guarantees one occurrence, 200% guarantees two, and 300% guarantees three.
The remainder rolls once more
After guaranteed occurrences are counted, the percentage left over is rolled for one additional occurrence. At 275%, two are guaranteed and the third has a 75% chance.
Only explicit Surpassing wording exceeds 100%
A normal chance-based stat does not gain repeated outcomes above 100%. The modifier must state that its chance is Surpassing.
Add matching chances before splitting the total
Matching Surpassing chances for the same event combine into the final chance. The guaranteed occurrences and remainder are then calculated from that total.
The repeated result depends on the event
For an additional Arrow, each guaranteed occurrence adds another Arrow. For a stack or reward chance, each occurrence grants that stated result unless the source also gives a maximum.

Limits and exceptions

5 rules
  • Ordinary chance wording does not repeat an event above 100%.
  • Surpassing chance applies only to the exact event named by the modifier.
  • A separate maximum on the result still applies.
  • Different events do not combine merely because both use Surpassing chance.
  • The remainder provides at most one additional occurrence after the guaranteed occurrences are counted.
