Effects that prevent players from recovering Life, Mana or Energy Shield except in specific ways, such as Vaal Pact, Cat O' Nine Tails or Indigon, no longer prevent recovery caused by core game systems (including but not limited to: checkpoints, healing wells, levelling up). This also means that changing areas while you have one of these effects can no longer cause you to lose Life, Mana or Energy Shield. Effects that prevent all forms of recovery (such as Lich's Eternal Life) have not received this change.

The exact random pool depends on item class and current eligibility rules, so it is not represented as a fixed item-to-item outcome.

Vaal Orb outcomes
4 outcomes / 10 enchantmentsVaal Orb can corrupt Cat O' Nine Tails. One applicable outcome is selected, and the item normally cannot be modified again by ordinary crafting.
- The resulting values are rounded to the nearest whole number, rather than always being rounded down like most decimal values in the game. However, testing suggests the game may use truncation with a +0.5 shift instead of standard rounding. This appears to bias internally negative stats (like 10% Reduced Dexterity) toward zero, preventing some expected values from appearing while making others more common. A formula of trunc(value + 0.5) may explain this behavior.
- For jewellery, no change. (This outcome is not removed by Omen of Corruption.)
- The item cannot have more sockets than the amount of space the item takes up.
- If the item is socketed with Cadigan's Epiphany, the item cannot gain an augment socket via corruption.
