What Unaffected does

Current rules

Unaffected is not the same as preventing, removing, or shortening a debuff. The debuff can remain present and can still satisfy wording that checks whether you have that debuff, even though the part you are Unaffected by does nothing.

The debuff can still be present
A debuff you are Unaffected by can still be applied and remain on your character. Unaffected suppresses its effect; it does not say that the debuff failed to apply.
Unaffected is not removal
Removing a debuff ends that debuff. Being Unaffected leaves the debuff present but stops its effect from applying for as long as the relevant Unaffected condition remains true.
Unaffected is not reduced effect
Reduced effect changes the magnitude of a debuff. Unaffected makes the named effect not apply, without changing the debuff's stored duration or claiming that its magnitude was reduced to zero.
Read the exact scope
Unaffected always names what it covers. Unaffected by Chill does not cover every Slow, and speed Unaffected by Slows does not stop unrelated effects such as damage, Curses, or Stun.
Read the exact condition
Conditional wording applies only during its stated window. Slippery Ice works during Dodge Roll, Suffusion works while Leeching Mana, and Ab Aeterno works while Sprinting.
The suppressed effect returns when the condition ends
If a debuff is still present when a temporary Unaffected condition ends, its effect can apply again for the debuff's remaining duration. Unaffected does not pause or reset that duration.

Slippery Ice

You are Unaffected by Chill during Dodge Roll. Its separate 25% reduced Chill Effect applies outside that brief Unaffected window.

04
Suffusion

You are Unaffected by Chill while Leeching Mana. The protection depends on active Mana Leech rather than merely having a source of Mana Leech.

Heatproofing

The Smith of Kitava passive makes the character Unaffected by Damaging Ailments through Body Armour. It does not cover non-damaging ailments or unrelated debuffs.

Hexproof

Hexproof is a named application of Unaffected: it makes the target Unaffected by Curses while still allowing a Curse to be present.

Limits and exceptions

5 rules
  • Unaffected does not remove a debuff or stop its duration from passing.
  • Unaffected by one debuff does not grant immunity to other debuffs.
  • A condition such as while Sprinting or during Dodge Roll ends when that condition ends.
  • Speed Unaffected by Slows prevents the speed change, not every other property an effect may have.
  • A debuff that remains present can still matter to effects that check for that debuff.
