A Relic affects the run only when placed in the Relic Altar before starting. A Relic in the character inventory has no effect.

Using the Relic Altar
The altar has 18 usable spaces on a 5 by 4 grid with two blocked corners. Twelve spaces unlock by completing trial floors and defeating their bosses.
Selected Relics cannot be changed while a trial is active. The run must be completed, failed, or forfeited first.
Getting and crafting Relics
Non-Unique Relics can drop throughout the trial from monsters, bosses, reward caches, chests, and breakables. Some bases have area-level restrictions.
A non-Unique Relic can have up to two modifiers. It can be crafted with applicable Orb of Augmentation and Orb of Annulment variants.
Three Relics of the same base can be reforged into one Relic of that base. Tapestry Relics are excluded.
Spare Relics can be stored in the Relic Locker or a personal stash tab.
Unique Relic challenge runs
Unique Relics drop from Zarokh, the Temporal after a four-floor trial.
Only one Unique Relic can be applied to a run. It imposes a specific restriction and makes Zarokh drop its specified reward.
The applied Unique Relic is destroyed when the run succeeds or fails. Read the restriction before confirming the Barya and Relic arrangement.

Rooms are hidden on the Trial Map.

Zarokh deals 100% more damage and takes 75% less damage.

Defences are disabled during the challenge run.
