Oil lowers Total Elemental Resistances by 20% and lasts six seconds. Igniting the Oil removes it, but the current Oil rule keeps its Exposure for the duration of the Ignite.

Exposure
Exposure is a Debuff that lowers one or more of the target's Resistances. It changes the target's actual resistance, can reduce it below zero, and can improve both Hit and non-Hit damage that uses the affected resistance.Catalog version 0.5.4d
No direct 0.5 patch change is linked to this page. The displayed values are current for catalog version 0.5.4d.
What Exposure does
Current rulesUse the Exposure type that matches your damage, then calculate its source value, applicable Exposure Effect, monster-rarity penalty, and any stated minimum. Exposure stacks with resistance reduction from Elemental Weakness, but repeated copies of the same ordinary Debuff type do not add unless a source explicitly says otherwise. Unlike Penetration, Exposure changes the target's resistance for relevant damage over time as well as Hits and can remain useful after resistance falls to zero.
- Exposure lowers actual resistance
- Exposure reduces the target's stated Resistance or Resistances for its duration. It can lower resistance below zero, which increases damage taken according to the normal resistance calculation.
- Exposure and Penetration differ
- Penetration applies only to Hits and has no effect when the relevant resistance is already zero or lower. Exposure changes the target's resistance, so it can help relevant damage over time and can continue below zero.
- Elemental Weakness stacks with Exposure
- Resistance reduction from Elemental Weakness stacks with Exposure because they are different Debuffs. Apply both reductions before evaluating a Hit's applicable Penetration.
- Same-type copies do not add by default
- Exposure is an ordinary Debuff rather than a specially stackable family such as Flammability. Repeated copies of the same Exposure type do not add together by default, so use the strongest applicable copy unless wording states another rule.
- Monster rarity reduces Elemental Exposure
- Elemental Exposure has 15% less effect on Magic monsters, 30% less effect on Rare monsters, and 50% less effect on Unique monsters.
- The source defines the base value
- Exposure has no single universal reduction value. Oil Grenade lowers Total Elemental Resistances by 20%, while other Skills, items, passives, and supports provide their own type and value.
- Exposure Effect scales the modified base
- Applicable increased Exposure Effect scales the source's modified base value. Stripped Defences adds five percentage points to the base before increased Exposure Effect is calculated.
- Duration depends on the source
- Exposure applied by a Skill can be affected by Skill Effect Duration, and Debuff duration changes can further alter its expiry. Persistent sources can repeatedly apply Exposure while their stated condition remains true.

6 rules- Exposure does not have one universal base value.
- Repeated copies of the same Exposure type do not add together by default.
- Elemental Exposure is weaker against Magic, Rare, and Unique monsters.
- Penetration does not improve damage over time and stops helping a Hit once resistance is zero or lower.
- A chance to inflict Exposure does not by itself state its magnitude or duration.
- A stated minimum Exposure value is applied after the normal calculation and is not scaled by increased Exposure Effect.
