What Presence does

Current rules

Only Presence Area modifiers change its size. Generic Skill Area modifiers do not. Hover over the Presence keyword in game to display the actual radius around your character, then check the source wording to see who receives the effect.

Default radius
Player Presence has a 4-metre radius by default. This was reduced from 6 metres in Content Update 0.2.0.
Presence follows the character
Presence is centred on the character and moves with that character. It is an area definition, not a separate placed object.
Read the named targets
Presence by itself applies nothing. An effect must explicitly name allies, enemies, corpses, or another subject in your Presence, and only that named subject receives the stated effect.
Only Presence Area scales it
Increased or reduced Presence Area of Effect and modifiers to Presence Radius change the area. Generic Skill Area modifiers do not, even when a skill supplies the Presence effect.
Inspect the radius in game
Hovering over any instance of the Presence keyword displays an indicator around the character showing the current Presence radius.
Party duplicates usually do not stack
Since Content Update 0.5.0, multiple party members cannot stack modifiers of the same type that apply to Allies in their Presence, including matching Sceptre and Grip of Kulemak modifiers. Leer Cast's Allies in your Presence deal 50% increased Damage modifier is an explicit exception.

Alpha's Howl doubles Presence Radius. Blood Price increases Presence Area of Effect, while other items can increase or reduce the area.

Events inside Presence

Some effects check whether an enemy dies, is Hit, or remains inside your Presence. The Ordained and The Vile Knight are examples where time or repeated events in the area matter.

Limits and exceptions

4 rules
  • Presence is an area definition, not a buff or debuff by itself.
  • Skill Area modifiers do not scale Presence.
  • Only entities and effects named by the source modifier are affected.
  • Do not add matching party Presence modifiers together unless the modifier or current patch rules explicitly allow it.
