What Soul Eater does

Current rules

Keep enemies inside your Presence when they die to build the normal Soul Eater Buff. At 50 Souls, the normal version grants 50% increased Skill Speed. The rare-monster version also grants 1% less damage taken per Soul. Headhunter can steal that rare modifier, while Zerphi's Serape and other direct sources use the Soul Eater effect named by their own modifier.

Nearby deaths feed Soul Eater
An enemy must die inside the Soul Eater owner's Presence. The owner does not need to deal the killing blow unless the source that granted Soul Eater adds its own kill condition. The default Presence radius is four metres and Presence Area modifiers can change it.
Each Soul grants increased Skill Speed
Every consumed Soul grants 1% increased Skill Speed. This is an Increased modifier, so it combines additively with applicable increases and reductions to the speed of the Skill being used. It is not 1% More Skill Speed per Soul.
The maximum is 50 Souls
Soul Eater cannot benefit from more than 50 eaten Souls at once. The ordinary version therefore reaches 50% increased Skill Speed at its cap. Consuming another Soul while already capped refreshes the recent-consumption window but does not raise the count above 50.
Soul loss begins after four seconds
After four seconds without eating a Soul, the owner loses one Soul every 0.5 seconds. Eating a new Soul stops the decay and begins a new four-second window. The stacks do not all disappear together when the grace period ends.
Monsters gain a defensive benefit
Soul Eater on monsters grants 1% increased Skill Speed and 1% less damage taken per Soul, up to 50 Souls. At the cap, the monster has 50% increased Skill Speed and 50% less damage taken from this modifier. This defensive line is specific to the monster or adjusted stolen-modifier form and must not be added automatically to every direct player source.
A stolen rare modifier uses its player-adjusted form
Since version 0.2.0, rare monster modifiers can grant adjusted effects when stolen by a player. The documented stolen Soul Eater entry grants 1% increased Skill Speed and 1% additional damage reduction per consumed Soul, up to 50 Souls. Headhunter supplies the rare modifier for 60 seconds, but the Souls still build and decay according to Soul Eater's own rules during that window.
The source decides who owns the Souls
Soul Eater on the player counts deaths in the player's Presence. Soul Eater granted to a Minion counts deaths in that Minion's Presence and improves that Minion. A Minion's Souls do not become player Souls, and separate Minions do not share one common Soul count.

Ways Soul Eater is gained or fed

5 cases
01
02
The Master's Reach

Hitting a Rare or Unique enemy with an Open Weakness immediately eats one Soul. This is a direct feeding condition, so it can build Soul Eater against a surviving boss without waiting for nearby enemies to die.

03
Tecrod's Revenge

When a supported Persistent Minion reaches zero Life, it gains Soul Eater and 40% increased Attack and Cast Speed, then remains alive for 20 seconds. Souls consumed during that state belong to the affected Minion.

04
Headhunter

Killing a Rare monster with the Soul Eater modifier grants its adjusted modifier for 60 seconds. During that time, nearby deaths can build up to 50 Souls for Skill Speed and the documented stolen-modifier damage reduction.

Rare monster modifier

A monster with Soul Eater consumes Souls from deaths in its Presence. Avoid killing disposable enemies beside it when possible, and move the monster away from packs or repeated summons so its stacks can begin decaying.

  • A monster's defensive Soul Eater values must not be copied onto an unrelated direct player source.
  • Deaths outside the owner's Presence do not grant Souls.
  • A Soul count cannot exceed 50.
  • If the effect that grants Soul Eater ends, its Souls no longer provide a benefit.
