Buff
A Buff is a beneficial effect applied to a player, Minion, monster, or other target for a duration or while a condition remains true. Buff Magnitude comes from the creator, while Buff Effect usually comes from the affected target.Catalog version 0.5.4d

What Buff does
Current rulesCheck who creates the Buff, who receives it, its Magnitude, its duration or upkeep condition, and its stacking rule. Buffs of the same type normally do not stack, so only the strongest copy applies unless the effect explicitly says otherwise.
- Beneficial status
- A Buff changes one or more stats on its target for a duration or while a stated condition is met. A green-bordered icon can help identify it, but icon colour alone is not proof that an effect is a Buff.
- Same-type stacking
- Buffs of the same type normally do not stack. The strongest applicable copy takes effect unless the Buff explicitly permits stacking or uses a separate staged or stack counter.
- Magnitude and Effect
- Modifiers to Buff Magnitude usually belong to the creator, while modifiers to Buff Effect usually belong to the target. These are separate multipliers applied from opposite sides of the effect.
- Temporary or persistent
- A Buff can expire after a duration or remain active while a Persistent skill, Aura, stance, resource reservation, or other condition is maintained.
- Source predicates remain
- A Buff created by an Attack, Spell, Minion, Aura, or Shrine keeps the predicates stated by its source. The Buff tag does not make all modifiers to those source types apply to every resulting effect.
- Expiry rate
- Effects that make Buffs on you expire slower extend applicable Buffs through expiry rate. The current slower-expiry cap is 75%, which makes the affected timer last four times as long.
Buff values to check
5 casesScales the Buff on the receiving target and is multiplicative with applicable Magnitude modifiers.
Controls how long a temporary Buff lasts. It does not increase the Buff's stat values by itself.
Related: DurationKeeps the Buff active while the skill is enabled and its reservation or other requirement remains satisfied.
Related: Persistent, Reservation, SpiritUse the strongest copy unless the Buff explicitly defines stacks, stages, or another exception.
Limits and exceptions
4 rules- A beneficial effect is not automatically a Buff. Charges, resources, ground effects, and other named mechanics can have separate classifications.
- Buff Magnitude and Buff Effect are not interchangeable. Apply each from the side named by the source.
- Two copies of the same Buff normally do not add together, even when they come from different creators.
- Longer duration does not increase Magnitude, and higher Magnitude does not extend duration.
