Aura

An Aura continuously applies a Buff to eligible allies or a Debuff to eligible enemies within an area around its source. Many player Auras use the character's Presence, but the exact targets, radius, reservation, and effect come from the individual skill.

What Aura does

Current rules

First check who the Aura affects: you, Allies, enemies, or a combination. If the skill says it works in your Presence, the base radius is 4 metres and only Presence Area modifiers change that area. Other Auras can use their own radius, such as placed Banners or Blasphemy. Aura Magnitude scales applicable numeric effects, while radius, duration, reservation, and application interval remain separate stats.

An Aura applies an effect within an area
Auras apply Buffs to eligible allies or Debuffs to eligible enemies inside the Aura's current area. Leaving the area normally removes a continuously applied effect, while a Debuff with its own duration can remain until that duration expires.
Presence is common but not universal
Many current Aura skills explicitly affect entities in your Presence. Presence has a 4 metre base radius. Presence Area modifiers change it, but generic Skill Area modifiers do not. An Aura with its own stated radius follows that skill's radius rules instead.
Do Auras affect me or only Allies?
You are not your own Ally. The word Allies includes other players, Minions, and other entities fighting alongside you, but not your own character. Discipline, the three elemental Purities, and Impurity explicitly say they affect you and Allies, so they include their wielder because the skill says you, not because you count as an Ally.
Auras can help or hinder
Discipline and the Purity skills grant defensive Buffs. Overwhelming Presence lowers enemy thresholds, Withering Presence periodically Withers enemies, Malice applies Critical Weakness, and Heart of Ice Chills enemies. The Aura tag describes delivery and does not decide whether the effect is beneficial.
Magnitude changes numeric strength
Increased Aura Magnitudes scales applicable numeric values created by an Aura skill. It does not increase Presence Area, an Aura's separate radius, duration, reservation, or application frequency unless the modifier explicitly names that stat.
Reservation is skill-specific
Most current player Aura skills are Persistent skills and reserve Spirit while enabled. The amount belongs to the individual skill and its supports. Reservation Efficiency changes the amount reserved, but does not strengthen the Aura or enlarge its area.
Same-type effects normally do not stack
Buffs or Debuffs of the same type normally use only the strongest applicable copy unless the effect explicitly allows stacking. Two players supplying the same Aura therefore do not normally add two copies of the same Buff or Debuff to one target.
Modifier wording must match
Aura Skills, Banner Skills, Non-Curse Auras, Curse Magnitude, and Auras affecting Minions are different modifier scopes. A broad-looking Aura modifier does not bypass an explicit Non-Curse, Banner, target, or source restriction.
Placed Banners move the Aura source
War Banner, Defiance Banner, and Dread Banner build Glory while active, then place a temporary Banner when used at maximum Glory. The Aura is centred on the placed Banner and affects only eligible targets inside its stated radius.

Current Aura types and scaling

9 cases
02
Threshold Aura

Overwhelming Presence reduces the Elemental Ailment Threshold and Stun Threshold of enemies in your Presence. Higher applicable Aura Magnitude strengthens those numeric reductions rather than making the ailments themselves stronger.

03
Repeated enemy Debuffs

Withering Presence periodically Withers enemies and Malice repeatedly applies Critical Weakness. Their application interval and the resulting Debuff's duration are separate from Aura Magnitude.

04
Team Flask recovery

Alchemist's Boon passively grants Flask charges to its user and causes the user's Life and Mana recovery from Flasks to also apply to Allies in the user's Presence. The self charge generation and ally recovery sharing are separate parts of the skill.

Blasphemy Curse Aura

Blasphemy turns each socketed Curse into an Aura around you. It reserves 60 Spirit per socketed Curse, gives the socketed skills 1 metre of base radius, and applies a level-dependent 41% to 50% less Curse Magnitude penalty. Curse limits and Curse-specific modifiers still apply.

Conditional enemy interactions

Heart of Ice continuously Chills enemies in your Presence using its stated Cold damage basis. Fulmination lets the first Skill Hit against a Shocked enemy also Hit other Shocked enemies in your Presence, subject to its own target and damage rules.

07
Placed Banner Auras

War Banner grants offensive stats, Defiance Banner grants defences and movement speed, and Dread Banner grants defensive thresholds, maximum elemental resistances, and Flask charges. Each requires Glory and applies its effect from the placed Banner for a duration.

Item and crafting modifiers

Perfect Essence of Command can add increased Aura Magnitudes to a Sceptre. Idol of the Martyr can trade Presence Area for Aura Magnitude on Sceptres. These modifiers change only the scope explicitly written on the item.

Limits and exceptions

6 rules
  • Aura does not mean beneficial. Auras can apply Buffs to allies or Debuffs to enemies.
  • You do not count as your own Ally. A skill must explicitly include you for an ally-only effect to apply to your character.
  • Presence Area, generic Skill Area, and a skill's explicit Aura radius are separate scaling scopes.
  • Aura Magnitude does not automatically change radius, duration, reservation, application interval, or target limits.
  • Non-Curse Aura modifiers do not apply to Curse Auras created by Blasphemy.
  • The Aura tag does not remove Curse limits, Persistent reservation, Banner Glory, or other rules belonging to the skill's additional tags.
