Remnant

Remnants are temporary objects created by Skills. Moving close enough collects one and grants the benefit defined by that Remnant's creator, unless another effect changes who receives it.

What Remnant does

Current rules

Walk close enough to a Remnant to collect it before it disappears. The Skill that created the Remnant determines what collection grants, such as Life, Mana, Rage, Runic Ward, a Power Charge, stored Minion Life, or an Elemental Infusion. A Verisium Remnant is a separate crafting encounter and does not use these collectible Skill rules.

Creation and collection are separate
A Skill first creates a Remnant in the world. Moving within pickup range collects it and applies the effect defined by that Remnant. Uncollected Remnants normally disappear after their own duration.
The creator defines the reward
Remnant is a shared object type, not one universal bonus. Life Remnants recover Life, Mana Remnants recover Mana, Lingering Illusion Remnants grant a Power Charge, and other creator Skills define different results.
Remnant is also a gem tag
The Remnant gem tag identifies Skills that create Remnants and can be used by effects that explicitly support or modify Remnant Skills. It does not make every object or encounter named Remnant use the same Skill mechanic.
Shared effects are not collection
Since patch 0.5.0, receiving a Remnant effect from an Ally does not count as collecting that Remnant. Stats worded as when you collect a Remnant require the character to perform the collection.
Pickup range does not change every range
Remnant pickup range changes how close the character must be to collect a Remnant. Into the Breach explicitly also applies pickup range modifiers to the distance at which Flames of Chayula are visible, but that visual interaction is specific to the Skill.
Elemental Infusions remain until used or expired
An Elemental Infusion Remnant grants its Infusion for 20 seconds or until a Skill Consumes it. The default maximum is three of each Infusion, and every repeat or reoccurrence of a Skill must Consume an Infusion separately to gain its benefit.
Verisium Infusion is a wildcard
A Verisium Infusion can replace any Elemental Infusion that a Skill could Consume. The Skill uses a matching non-Verisium Infusion first, and the default Verisium maximum equals the maximum for one Elemental Infusion type, normally three.
Flames of Chayula have colour-specific effects
Red Flames Leech 20% of maximum Life, Blue Flames Leech 20% of maximum Mana, and Purple Flames grant a stacking Buff with 7% of damage as extra Chaos damage for 8 seconds, up to 10 stacks.
Verisium Remnants are crafting encounters
A Verisium Remnant uses ordered Runeshapes to select a reward, then starts waves of Verisium infused monsters. It is a Runes of Aldur crafting encounter, not a collectible Remnant created by a player Skill.

Limits and exceptions

5 rules
  • The effect of a collectible Remnant must be read from the Skill or effect that created it. Remnant is not one universal reward.
  • A Remnant normally expires if it is not collected before its own duration ends.
  • Receiving a shared Remnant effect from an Ally does not trigger stats that require you to collect a Remnant.
  • Elemental Infusions are stored states whose payoff is defined by the consuming Skill. Every repeat or reoccurrence must Consume separately.
  • A Verisium Remnant crafting encounter is a separate system and does not use the collectible Skill Remnant rules.
