Strike

A Strike is a Melee Attack that directly hits with a weapon or body part. Strike and Slam are mutually exclusive classifications, and Melee Strike Range affects how far a Strike can directly reach.

What Strike does

Current rules

Check the required weapon, Melee Strike Range, Accuracy, number of direct Strikes, and any Splash or secondary area. The direct Strike and its Splash, Projectile, explosion, or triggered component can use different modifiers.

Direct Melee Hit
A Strike directly hits with a weapon or body part. It is both an Attack and a Melee component unless the skill explicitly changes a narrower property.
Not a Slam
Slam Attacks do not count as Strikes. Strike and Slam predicates must not be applied to the same component unless a source explicitly creates separate components.
Melee Strike Range
Melee Strike Range changes the reach used to select and directly Hit enemies with Strikes. It does not increase Slam radius, Projectile distance, or every secondary area.
Accuracy
Strikes are Attacks and normally require an Accuracy check against the target unless the skill says it cannot be Evaded or always Hits.
Splash Damage
An effect can make a Strike deal Splash Damage around the struck target. Current generic Strike Splash sources use a 1.5 metre radius unless another source specifies a different radius.
Secondary components
A Strike can create Projectiles, shockwaves, explosions, ground effects, or triggered skills. Those components do not automatically inherit Strike Range or every Strike-only modifier.

Strike components to separate

5 cases
01
Direct Strike

Uses weapon or Unarmed Attack stats, Accuracy, Melee and Strike predicates, and Melee Strike Range.

Related: Attack, Melee, Accuracy
02
Strike sequence

A multi-part skill can perform several direct Strikes with different damage, speed, conversion, or final-hit rules.

03
Splash Damage

Damages enemies around the directly struck target through an area component while remaining sourced from the Strike.

Related: AoE
04
Projectile from a Strike

Uses Projectile rules and does not count as Melee damage merely because the originating Attack was a Strike.

Related: Projectile
05
Triggered secondary skill

Uses its own Trigger, source, damage, and targeting rules rather than becoming another direct Strike.

Limits and exceptions

4 rules
  • Melee Strike Range does not increase Slam areas, Projectile travel, or every explosion created by a Strike.
  • Strike is not a damage type. A Strike can deal Physical, elemental, or Chaos damage.
  • Splash is a secondary area around the direct target and must not be counted as another direct Strike without explicit wording.
  • A close-range Attack is not automatically a Strike. Use the component tag and description.
