A skill or passive names its own event and immediately activates the linked secondary skill when that event occurs.

Trigger
A Trigger causes a skill to occur immediately when its stated condition is met. A Triggered skill has no attack or cast time for that activation, usually targets the cause of the Trigger, and does not count as a skill you used.Catalog version 0.5.4d

What Trigger does
Current rulesCheck the exact Trigger condition, eligible socketed skill types, Energy requirement if it is a Meta skill, cost handling, cooldown, and target. A skill assigned to more than one Trigger method is disabled, and Channelling skills cannot be Triggered.
- Not manually used
- Triggering a skill does not count as using it. Effects that require a skill you use yourself therefore do not apply unless their wording explicitly includes Triggered skills.
- No use time
- A Triggered skill occurs immediately without performing its normal attack or cast time. Its base use time can still matter for Energy calculations or other explicit mechanics.
- One Trigger method
- If multiple Trigger methods attempt to apply to the same skill, that skill is disabled rather than choosing one method or triggering from both.
- Channelling exclusion
- Channelling skills cannot be Triggered. Individual Trigger or support predicates can add further exclusions such as cooldown, reservation, Minion, Totem, or item-granted skills.
- Energy is per Meta skill
- Each Meta skill builds and spends its own Energy. When a Meta skill reaches its threshold, its socketed skills follow that Meta skill's trigger or invocation rule.
- Triggered Energy restriction
- Energy cannot be gained from the direct effects of Triggered skills. Excess Energy above the threshold is discarded when the counter resets.
Trigger systems to distinguish
5 casesGains Energy from its condition, then triggers all eligible socketed skills when maximum Energy is reached.
Related: Meta, Energy, PersistentStores Energy until the player uses the Invocation, then triggers socketed spells according to the stored amount.
Related: Energy, PersistentThe Trigger bypasses use time, but the skill's current cooldown, cost rule, and Trigger-specific restrictions still need to be checked.
The skill usually targets the event that caused the Trigger, but the Trigger or skill can specify another target or location.
Limits and exceptions
4 rules- Triggering is not using. On-use and use-yourself predicates do not automatically apply.
- Bypassing attack or cast time does not erase every reference to the skill's base use time, especially in Energy calculations.
- A Trigger tag does not identify the event by itself. Read the full skill or support text for the condition and target.
- Triggered skills cannot generate Energy through their direct effects, preventing self-sustaining Trigger loops through that route.
